Sovereign Bank Stadium (York Outdoor Recreation Complex)

Sovereign Bank Stadium will be one of several pivotal economic development projects within the much larger, 20-year Codorus Corridor Redevelopment effort already underway by the York County Economic Development Corporation and others.

A positive quality of life and place is a benefit that makes a community more attractive to businesses considering relocation and provides businesses and people already in our city a reason to remain. Cultural amenities such as stadiums, theatres and other projects that support the arts and entertainment of a city are shown in studies to be important to employees of certain types of companies, such as high-technology industries.

The family entertainment, sense of community pride and rehabilitation of neighborhoods aspects of such a facility cannot be overlooked. The outdoor recreation complex provides a low-cost family-oriented location for inner-city residents and visitors alike. The outdoor recreation complex is not about baseball – it is about the growth of our community, the building of families and the ability to show visitors that York is a safe, clean environment to live, work and play.

The 5300 seat facility is home to the York Revolution, a baseball team from the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball which is an independent minor league organization not affiliated with Major League Baseball. There are 20 skyboxes that are leased by area companies and individuals that will no doubt host visitors to York from all over the world as part of their visit to Downtown York.

During games, audience participation events allows ticket holders the chance to be a part of the action, joining the players on the field for a moment in the spotlight with fun activities between innings that make the entire crowd a part of the action.

The skybox level also contains a multi-purpose banquet space that is available for parties and functions with views of the field, surrounding historic neighborhood and revitalized Codorus Creek.

The area beyond the playing field will contain a children’s play area with a carousel and rock-climbing wall, rides and games. There will also be a group events picnic pavilion with seating for up to 500 for private casual all-you-can-eat celebrations overlooking the field during games and other events.
