South Western Region Vision Statement:

Managed growth and development
Conservation of rural and scenic areas
Revitalization and infill in boroughs, including restaurants, small retail shops, and small-scale offices to serve the local population
Limited neighborhood-serving, smaller scale retail expansion in townships that address the daily needs of residents
Diversification of manufacturing and industrial-based development
Agricultural protection
Agritourism, which could include but is not limited to farm bed and breakfasts, wineries, corn mazes, and hayrides
Agriculturally related support businesses
Agriculture to meet resident’s daily needs (e.g. farmer’s markets)

Hanover Area
Hanover is diverse, a very healthy mix of manufacturing, processing, trade and agriculture – a fitting tribute to the strong work ethic and dedication of its earliest settlers, the Germans. Hanover is also growing rapidly. Studies predict that the area is growing at a rate of 32 percent, and will continue to do so until 2020. Hanover is one of the largest retail areas in Pennsylvania and one of the largest manufacturing regions. Hanover also bears another distinction – it is the “snack food capital,” home to nearly one dozen brands, including Utz Potato Chips and Snyder’s of Hanover.
