YCEDC Launches Office of Workforce Development
The York County Economic Development Corporation
(YCEDC) held a press conference on Tuesday, March 18 to officially announce the creation of its new Office of Workforce Development
(OWD). The need for the OWD was originally proclaimed by YorkCounts and last year
reaffirmed through YCEDC's "Fairweather Study". "Helping to address employers' demands
for talent now and in the future is paramount," stated YCEDC President, Darrell Auterson. "Forecasters are predicting significant number and skill deficiencies in our workforce over the
next two decades, requiring bold and innovative action on our part."

YCEDC Welcomes New Staff Member
Sean London joins the YCEDC staff as the Vice President, Workforce Development. Sean has over 10 years experience in career training institutions, including campus director of schools in NC, PA, and MD.
Most recently, he served as Director at the Medix School in Towson Maryland. Prior to that, he served as Director at the York and Maryland locations of the Baltimore School of Massage and at the Carolina School of Massage Therapy.
Sean was born and raised in the New York Metro area. He moved to York County in 1996. He currently resides in Dover with his wife, Elizabeth.

per game free of charge to youth groups, groups with disabilities,
senior citizen groups, charitable organizations, civic organizations,

YCEDC attended the Capital Region Partnership for Career Development conference. The purpose of the conference was to review the State Academic Career Education and Work Standards. The interactive session topics included the role of business and community, economic and workforce impact, relevance to students and curriculum integration.

The workforce committee of the Hanover Chamber Of Commerce conducted a "Business And Education Summit" on Monday, March 17th at the Hanover Hospital Wellness Center. The focus of the summit was to address how businesses both large and small can integrate millennium students into their workforce.

Business Retention and Expansion Program
Staff attended a BREP training session in Philadelphia in March. The State is in the process of making enhancements to the program which will allow for more comprehensive reporting. Other enhancements will provide better document managing capabilities and will also allow local economic development offices to tailor some questions to specific concerns in each county.
The purpose of a BREP meeting is to identify needs and concerns of York County businesses. The program offers an extensive service provider network to respond to problems upon request. If you are aware of a company that would benefit from a BREP visit please contact Ellie Lamison.
APG Breaks Ground on C4ISR Complex
Aberdeen Proving Grounds (APG) broke ground on a $477 million project on Monday, March 17. The C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) complex is the base's first major project in the BRAC decision. The complex will consist of 12 buildings over 250 acres.
BRAC is expected to bring 10,000 jobs to Aberdeen in the next three years with around 5,000 housed in C4ISR.

Shippensburg University will offer two post-bachelor's business programs in Hanover beginning
in Fall 2008.
The programs through the university's John L. Grove College of Business are open to the public
and will be offered at Snyder's of Hanover corporate headquarters. One program is a certificate in
advanced studies in business and the other is the master's of business administration degree.

Central York High School Wins JA Titan Challenge
Two Central York High School students, the owners of company "Googles FedDes, Inc.", were the first place champions of Junior Achievement's JA Titan Challenge held on March 10, 2008. The students each took home a $1,000 scholarship. The company, along with 120 other fictional companies, marketed and produced virtual "hologenerators", a fictional product that projects 3D holographic music videos in the palm of your hand. The companies "Smallturbo" from Spring Grove and "MD Washon Inc." were the 2 runners-up. Students from each of these teams received a $500 scholarship.
Students from top performing companies win scholarships and have the opportunity to advance to compete at a regional JA Titan Challenge event. This year, Junior Achievement has partnered with the York County Alliance for Learning (YCAL) and the Keystone Innovation Zone. Because of this partnership, and a sponsorship from Select Medical Corporation, JA increased the amounts of the scholarships that were awarded this year.

WellSpan Among Top 100 Most Integrated Health Networks
WellSpan Health has been named among the Top 100 Most Integrated Health Networks by Verispan, a health care data and consulting firm in Yardley, Pa.
WellSpan tallied 79.16 points, ranking 44th among the top 100. ProMedica Health System of Toledo, Ohio, was first with 93.7 points.
This marks the fifth time WellSpan has appeared on the list. It earned the distinction for its performance in 2000, 2003, 2004 and 2006.
