Jon Roberts Addresses YCEDC Membership and Board
Jon Roberts of TIP Strategies, Inc. spoke at the YCEDC Annual Member Meeting on January 10, 2008. Mr. Roberts created the strategy behind Gateway Technical College in Madison, WI.

Mr. Roberts emphasized "Quality of Place" as one of the most important assets a community should market as opposed to "Quality of Life." The rationale behind this thought is "without the amenities and resources associated with an outward-looking community, it will not be possible to attract young and productive people." Marketing a community on the basis of "quality of life reinforces the values of the existing population" while quality of place speaks to the future, embraces change and links directly to economic vitality.

Recommendations included focusing initiatives on talent, innovation and
entrepreneurship, and redevelopment with purpose, revisiting incubators, higher education and revitalizing the Codorus Corridor.
