Jon Roberts to Speak at YCEDC Annual Member Meeting
Jon Roberts of TIP Strategies, Inc. will speak at the YCEDC Annual Member Meeting on January 10, 2008. Mr. Roberts was the creator of the strategy behind Gateway Technical College in Madison, W.I.
Mr. Roberts is the Managing Director of TIP Strategies, Inc. (TIP), in Austin, Texas. He is an international leader in economic development and a proponent of the "creative class" as a model for growth. He has overseen projects in Oregon, Texas, and other U.S. regions, as well as in Europe and Asia. Mr. Roberts is currently involved in a variety of development and recruitment projects.

YorkCounts Presents Metro-York Recommendations
YorkCounts, York County's community-wide quality-of-life coalition, presented eight forward-thinking recommendations in November for improving municipal prosperity and education, with the aim of a better, stronger heart of York County. Known as the Metro-York recommendations, the ideas are the outcome of YorkCounts' ambitious Metro-York project.

- GASP closed on a $800,000 loan to The York-Adams Council, Boy Scouts of America. The loan will be used to refinance existing tax-exempt debt issued by GASP in 2002
- YCIDA closed on a $5,000,000 loan to Penn Waste

2007 Economic Census
In December, more than 4 million American businesses will receive 2007
Economic Census forms from the U.S. Census Bureau. The economic census is
the nation's most comprehensive measure of business and industry, and is taken
every five years. Ben Bernanke has called the economic census "indispensable
to understanding America's economy." Business response is so important that it
is required by law.
Businesses should return their census forms promptly
by the February 12, 2008 due date.

North America Power Partners Spinning Reserves Program
North America Power Partners is a demand response provider. These programs are fully endorsed by The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The Spinning Reserves Program generates revenues for companies that are willing to be on standby as a resource to the electric grid (PJM). NAPP manages all of the complexities to offer a risk free and easy program to its customers. The Energy Market Program generates revenues by selling companies' unused electricity back into the wholesale energy market.

ICY Update
An area company updated ICY investors on a system that screens fresh cut produce for bacterial contamination at the ICY meeting on November 28. This was the second presentation this company had made before the ICY group. A company that manufactures a nanotube-based microchip sensor used to monitor drinking water also presented. The last presentation of the evening was a York County company that produces theft prevention/recovery systems. Interest has been shown in at least one of the companies and investors have started the due diligence process on this company.

YCEDC Staff Attends Basic Economic Development Course
Two YCEDC staff members recently completed the Basic Economic Development Course in Camp HIll. The Course, which is accredited by the International Economic Development Council, is designed to serve the needs of full-time economic development practitioners and those involved in economic development in a secondary way. It is the first step in a process to become a certified economic development practitioner through the International Economic Development Council.
Every year, the Course is held during the first full week of December. The Course will be held from November 30 - December 5, 2008. If you are interested in learning more about the Basic Economic Development Course in Pennsylvania, please visit our web site at www.bedcpa.org.

YCEDC Seeking A Workforce Development Advocate
The YCEDC is currently seeking applicants for a Workforce Development Advocate. Interested parties should submit a resume and salary history/requirements via email to Kacie Longenberger.
- The job responsibilities will include developing networks and formulating long-term workforce development strategies. Applicants should possess strong economic development and workforce development skills. The successful candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in a suitable field and/or equivalent work experience.

The YCEDC Economic Development Team conducts on-site visits with leaders in business and industry as part of Pennsylvania's Business Retention and Expansion Program (BREP). During these visits, staff collect information on each company's needs and concerns, learning about challenges faced by businesses throughout York County. Identifying the issues helps the YCEDC to better respond with services to meet the changing needs of York's growing economy.

York Revolution Holds Ribbon Cutting for Ticket Office
The York Revolution held an official ribbon cutting ceremony for the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Saturday, December 15. Following the ceremony, sales were open for all 70 home games in 2008 for one-day only. This was the only chance fans had to purchase individual game tickets until they go on sale in April.

SARAA Approves 2008 Budget
The Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority (SARAA) approved a 2008-expense budget of 15.8 million consisting of $14.8 million for maintenance and operations and approximately $1.0 million for capital improvements. SARAA anticipates airline and non-airline revenues of approximately $24.6 million.

New Year's Eve Gala at Sovereign Bank Stadium
The York Revolution will host a New Year's Eve Gala in the White Rose Hall, at Sovereign Bank Stadium, as part of the New Year's Revolution grand finale event, sponsored by Community Courier. Gates will open at 6pm and dinner will start at 7pm. You must be 21 years or older to purchase tickets for this event with ticket prices at $125 for an individual and $100 per person for two or more people.

New Year's Revolution at Sovereign Bank Stadium
Mayor John S. Brenner and members of York Revolution Baseball announced their plans to partner together to create a larger New Year's Eve event on Monday, December 31 from 6 p.m. until midnight throughout downtown York. As in years past, the New Year's Eve celebration will focus on fun, family entertainment for all ages throughout more than 20 downtown locations, but it will culminate with an expanded finale with live music and entertainment held in the comfort of Sovereign Bank Stadium. The new event will now be called "New Year's Revolution!"
