How Can YCEDC Help Your Business?
The YCEDC Economic Development Team conducts on-site visits with leaders in business and industry as part of Pennsylvania's Business Retention and Expansion Program (BREP). During these visits, staff collect information on each company's needs and concerns, learning about challenges that face businesses in York County. It is important that the YCEDC is aware of a company's needs as it helps the YCEDC to be better prepared to respond with services.
If you would like YCEDC staff to visit with your company, please contact Katie Miles at 717-846-8879 x3023 to schedule a visit.

ICY Update
Mike March and Carole Swope attended a session on Business Valuation sponsored by the Ben Franklin Venture Investment Forum on October 25, 2007 in Middletown. Mr. Robert E. Ribic, Jr., Business Valuation Director for SF& Company (formerly Seligman, Friedman & Company, P.C.) informed the group on factors affecting value, different types of valuations, how to recognize a good valuation report and much more information that will assist ICY in reviewing valuations of companies.
Carole Swope attended the VANJ Fall 2007 Entrepreneurs Expo and Elevator Pitch Olympics at the Morristown Hyatt Hotel in Morristown, New Jersey on October 29, 2007. There were 47 exhibitors. During lunch, 34 company representatives gave a two minute "elevator" speech. The speech was then scored by a panel of six investors on the Quality of Presentation and Business Fundability. There were a number of good contacts made and some of the companies will be contacted in regards to making presentations to the ICY group.
The next ICY meeting will be held on November 28, 2007 at Chapps at the Hill where two companies will make presentations, one of which is a local company.
If you are an accredited investor or a company looking for investors, please contact Carole Swope for more information.
KIZ and NCNE Staff Participate in 20th Annual Farm Tour
KIZ and NutriCore staff represented YCEDC at the 20th annual Farm Tour sponsored by the York County Agricultural Business Council (YCABC). Held at 3 locations in southern York County on November 3rd, this year's event was incorporated with Factory Tour Week in the county.
Staff was pleased with the attendance at their location, The Family Tree Farm in Red Lion. In order to promote the development of a shared use community kitchen, materials were distributed and staff met with a number of interested individuals. As a result, a new target group was identified for utilizing a shared kitchen, i.e. clubs, schools, PTOs and other fundraising groups who hold food & bake sales and can utilize an efficient commercial sized equipment to reduce their costs and or time and improve their quality.
In addition, discussions about the Commonwealth's First Industry Agricultural funding programs were held with a dozen farmers who were previously unaware of any such potential support from the state to help grow their operations.
Based on the success of the event, the YCABC has extended an invitation for the exhibit to be repeated at the County's Agricultural Recognition Banquet in January.
