Gateway Technical College Addresses Workforce Service Providers
On October 22, 2007 the York County Economic Development Corporation (YCEDC), in cooperation with the William F. Goodling Regional Advanced Skills Center (ASC) and YorkCounts, sponsored a community dialogue session looking at the development of Advanced Technology Centers and their importance in growth initiatives for the community. Educators, training professionals, representatives from community and workforce development, elected officials, and business leaders attended the event, which was well received by all parties.
Bryan Albrecht, President of Gateway Technical College (GTC), Matthew Wagner, Executive Director of CATI for GTC, and Patrick Flanagan, Special Assistant to Government and Community Relations for GTC, presented models detailing economic development, strategic planning, and organizational partnerships that focus on revitalizing communities, and advancing job growth and education. GTC is a nationally recognized institution focusing on advanced methods for technical education and community development.
Both the YCEDC and the ASC have received positive responses supporting continued analysis and of this approach from those that attended the event. A strategic planning committee will be created to explore potential growth and revitalization initiatives for the region, thereby continuing the goal of achieving economic, educational, and workforce excellence.

Economic Development Financing Seminar Held The YCEDC held its second Economic Development Financing Seminar on October 24 at the Bon-Ton Corporate Center. Over 59 people attended the seminar designed for professional service providers who support growing York County businesses. The seminar focused on matching loan programs, tax-exempt financing and non-traditional financing.
Presenters included YCEDC's own Kenetha Hansen, Vice President, Economic Development and Carole Swope, Program Coordinator for the Investors Circle of York. Kenetha discussed matching loan programs while Carole informed the audience about ICY. Howard M. Sakin, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, PNC's Capital Markets Group, spoke about tax-exempt financing. Jeffrey Dice, Director, Small Business Lending and Counseling for Community First Fund discussed CF's services and loan programs.

ICY Update
ICY met on Wednesday, October 17 at Chapps at the Hill. Jim Pietropaolo from Ben Franklin joined the meeting to update the members on what was happening at Ben Franklin. Ben Franklin had invested in the company that presented. The presenter was a high-tech software development company focusing on a Life Sciences application of Radiation Treatment Planning for Cancer Therapy. Another investor group is leading a round of funding and ICY is in the process of getting more information from that group. Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday, the next meeting of ICY will be at Chapps on November 28, 2007.
ICY will be involved in Entrepreneurship Week, November 1- November 6. For more information on this event, please visit www.YorkKiz.org .
