Meets BREP Goal for 2006-2007 Program Year
The York County Economic Development Corporation
has successfully completed all of its Business Retention and Expansion
Program (BREP) visits for the fiscal year 06-07. The team conducted
184 company visits; 170 regular program visits and 14 additional
visits to companies in some form of distress as defined by the PA
Department of Labor. The BREP program continues to provide the Pennsylvania
Department of Community and Economic Development (PA DCED) and its
economic development partners around the state with vital intelligence
within and about the business community. Gathered information identifies
general trends and also identifies opportunities for state and local
assistance through DCED and its partners. As a result of the visits
in York County alone, more than 110 referrals providing assistance
were made.

Go Global
Grant Update
PEDYC has solicited proposals from several qualified
agencies to execute a marketing effort that will advance Pennsylvania's
and York's international competitiveness by expanding exports and
increasing direct investment in the Commonwealth. The primary use
of the funds will be the development of a quality web-site, collateral
materials and a trade show display that will be used to enhance
York County's position as a competitor in the global economy. The
marketing project will be funded with a $10,000 Go Global grant
awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic
Development (PA DCED) in May, which will be matched with $10,000
of regional matching funds.

Investors
Circle of York (ICY) Update
The Investors Circle of York (ICY) met on June 20,
2007at Chapps at the Hill restaurant in York. After getting an update
on recent ICY happenings, the group heard presentations from two
companies. One company develops and sells personal vehicle products
for people with limited mobility to enhance their quality of life.
The company distinguishes themselves from their competition by offering
a lower cost, modular and upgradeable, non-invasive installation
system that can be used in several different vehicles. The second
company has a successful and unique strategy to acquire businesses
at low multiples in non-competitive markets. The company partners
and works with the existing management, when possible, to team with
and grow the company to a size that makes them attractive to numerous
small funds or high exit multiples.
Excitement and
interest continues to swirl around ICY as the staff and its leadership
implement best practices, locate viable companies and develop mutually
beneficial partnerships that are resulting in quality investments
for its members.
The next
meeting of ICY is scheduled for July 18. If you are an investor
or are looking for investor funding and would like more information,
please contact Jeff Baltimore
or Carole Swope.

Sovereign
Bank Stadium Construction Update
In areas open to occupancy on the first floor, workers are taking
advantage of 5 days without a home game to complete the floors in
the 1st base concession area and the 3rd base restrooms. Painters
are on-site and are beginning to work on not only the second floor
sky boxes, but also some of the steel and doorways on the 1st floor.
Glass doors
are being installed on the fronts of the sky boxes, drywall is being
hung, ceramic tile is in the bathrooms, and the wallpaper is being
hung. Workers are pushing for a mid-to-late July opening (on a limited
basis) of the second floor sky boxes and function rooms.
Permanent fencing
installation has begun along Arch Street, and contractors are beginning
work on the centerfield concession/restroom building at the playground,
installing the foundations and starting to bring the building up
out of the ground.
In the lower
level, masons and plumbers are working together to install the visiting
team clubhouse locker room showers and toilets.
In the rear,
excavation continues to get the rear parking lot down to final elevation,
with storm water piping being installed. The home team clubhouse
is being prepared for foundations, with the backfill of the retaining
wall for the right field storage area being completed.
The next few
weeks should show progress to the fans as the second level begins
to near its completion and the detached home team clubhouse and
concession buildings start to take shape.
