Sovereign
Bank Stadium Update
-
Steel
construction continues at a rapid pace, as workers continue
to place columns and beams behind home plate and head around
toward third base. The seating bowl is taking shape, with sections
22 through 26 nearly complete, sections 16 through 22 partially
concrete, and soil just being shaped from sections 1 through
16 on the first base side. Stadium seats will be installed beginning
the week of April 9th.

The seating bowl takes shape.
- Rock drilling
and blasting continues as crews move out the right field line
toward the home clubhouse with excavation work. The construction
site is a well-coordinated hub of activity as more and more area
is consumed by buildings and field construction, leaving little
space for movement of vehicles. In the next few days, the site
will open up a bit as crews demolish the railroad transload building
at the corner of North Queen and Hay Streets.
- The infield
and outfield walls have been completed from the home dugout on
the first base line all the way around to right center field,
near the future location of the large video scoreboard.
- The first
stair tower was installed this week, allowing easy access for
workers up to the skybox level, where 9 of the 20 skyboxes have
been framed out and where electrical and plastic plumbing drain
lines are being installed.

Brick goes
up on concourse.

- THE 'YORK
PLAN' IN WORLD WAR II, TODAY IT'S 'YES' - In WW II, local ingenuity
gave the nation the York Plan…industries pooling talent,
tools and materials to keep production lines moving in support
of our GIs fighting to protect our freedom. Today, as American
faces stiff global economic competition, York's jobs skills education
program is gaining traction locally, even spreading to other communities.
A combination of business and education leaders have developed
YES, meaning Your Employability Skills, designed to equip youth
and adults with the talent for upward mobility in the marketplace
for jobs requiring more mind than muscle. So far, 1,450 people
have already earned YES certificates, and 84% of them have either
landed a job or moved up to a better job. Bob Kellerman, the director,
explains: "YES is an employer/educator driven workforce development
initiative that was developed and proved in York County, and is
attracting lots of interest from many regions of PA." Kellerman
adds: "Requests for information on YES have already been
received from other states. We have recently been requested to
make a presentation to a business coalition in Chicago."

and hear about the services and programs that are available to
them. Deb Shifflet led the students and explained the various
partner agencies that are housed in the PA CareerLink - York County
and the services that they could access. Sandy Richardson graciously
assisted in the activities. The students were able to enroll on
the CL website and create individual resumes and used the Job
Search function to look at job orders. Each student was given
a printed copy of their resume to take along with them. The "My
Life" program is offered by York County Children and Youth
Services to students who are aging out of foster care. They are
taught skills that they need to attain independence and self sufficiency
as they move into the next phase of life.
