- New
Targeted Industry Recommended for South Central PA: At
its September 6, 2006 meeting, the WIB's Program Development Committee
under the leadership of its Chairman Darrell Auterson, President
and CEO of the York County Economic Development Corporation, voted
unanimously to recommend to the WIB Executive Committee and full
WIB that the Utility Industry be identified as a targeted industry
for the South Central Workforce Investment Board Area. The Utility
Industry has one of the highest average age for workers in industries
in the area and also has one of highest average wage figures for
workers. If the full WIB approves this recommendation, the next
step is for a charter meeting of area's utility companies and
their worker representatives to start the process for the development
of an Industry Partnership to address workforce development issues.
WIB members and CareerLink staffs are encouraged to contact Dr.
Garraty if they are aware of companies that may be interested
in this initiative.
- Approval
for Industry Partnership Training Grant Proposal: The
WIB's Program Committee recommended approval of a $400,000 Advanced
Materials and Diversified Manufacturing in Electronics, Machine
Builders, Printing and Vehicle/Vehicle Systems Training Proposal
for Program Year 2006. While the initial grant is limited to the
$400,000 cap as per the statewide guidelines, state officials
have noted that because of this WIB's size and past success in
this area, they fully expect for the WIB to come in for additional
funds during the year. Over the past year, the South Central Pa
Maintenance Training Partnership (SCPMTP) has demonstrated that
training providers understand that it is important to address
these skill gaps regionally.

once viewed as an administrative function, are now a vital contributor
to an organization's success. Through an HR audit, companies can
assess where they are, uncover any issues they may have, and determine
how they can best align HR operations with business goals. The benefits
of this process are tremendous. An HR audit provides peace of mind
