Foreign
Trade Zone 147 Expands
The Partnership for Economic Development
of York County (PEDYC) and the Foreign-Trade Zone Corporation of Southeastern
Pennsylvania, in partnership with Campbell Trade Group, Inc., held a
press conference on Friday, November 18 announcing the expansion of
Foreign Trade Zone 147 (FTZ 147).
This expansion reorganizes
two of the existing sites in York County and creates two new sites in
the Counties of Cumberland, Franklin and York, and one new site in the
Counties of Dauphin, Lancaster, and Northampton.
It was also announced
that Clarks Companies North America, Inc., Operator of Foreign-Trade
Zone No.147A, have activated their subzone in Hanover PA. Clarks had
submitted an application to PEDYC for the activation of the FTZ Subzone
in Summer 2005. GlaxoSmithKline, located in Hanover, operates the other
active FTZ in York County.
The expansion of FTZ
147 continues the long efforts by civic leaders to increase employment
opportunities and investment in the Southeastern and Southcentral PA
by encouraging international business activities. It will be another
tool and an important factor in the on-going program to attract new
industry and retain existing industry.

NutriCore
NorthEast Update
NutriCore NorthEast (NCNE) held a monthly advisory committee
meeting on October 31st. An important presentation was made at the meeting
concerning the proposal of a research project. Dr. Robert Farrell at Penn
State University - York is seeking support to study the genetic trends
in apple trees to build resistance to the Fire Blight. This project was
well received by the committee with consensus to pursue a funding partnership.
The arrangement will be similar to NutriCore's partnership with the Mushroom
Council to fund the current anti-oxidant research at PSU-University Park.
When funded, this project will mark a significant first for NutriCore
in that the research will be wholly conducted within York and will be
led by a member of the advisory committee.
NutriCore's Committee members, sponsors,
research partners, and the general public are invited to the 3rd annual
stakeholder meeting on December 8th at 1pm at the Manufacturers' Association
of South Central PA. Please contact Alan Cotich or Aeman Bashir for more
information at 717.846.8879. |
