YCEDC Annual Meeting
YCEDC held its Annual Member Meeting on Thursday, January 13 at the Yorktowne Hotel. Mel Billingsley, Ph.D., President and CEO of Life
Sciences Greenhouse of Central Pennsylvania was the guest speaker.

YCEDC staff presented a year-end review of the corporation's activities in 2004. Kenetha Hansen reported on community and economic development including funding requests, loan activity, and business retention and expansion. Paul Wojciechowski summarized development activity in the Hanover area, highlighting business retention and attraction, workforce development, and municipal support. The creation of the special projects department and highlights of the Codorus Creek Redevelopment initiative was presented by Scott Dempwolf. Darrell Auterson concluded the presentation with a report on the economic impact resulting from the year's activity.

The Annual Board meeting was held immediately following the Annual Membership meeting. The board conducted business including approval of new board members and a change in leadership. Don Butcher's leadership role as Chairman of the Board Directors concluded in 2004. Darrell Auterson and Jim Hogg expressed their appreciation for all that Chairman Butcher has done for the YCEDC and York County during his four years as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Board. The YCEDC would also like to acknowledge the confirmation of two former Chairmen, Larry J. Miller and Richard L. Reinhardt, as Chairmen Emeritus.

Congratulations are also in order for James W. Hogg and Loren H. Kroh, respectively, as they assume their roles as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. We would also like to thank our outgoing board members for volunteering their valuable time and extend a warm welcome to our new board members.

NutriCore NorthEast News
The American Mushroom Institute (AMI) is the latest organization to endorse NutriCore NorthEast. AMI is a national voluntary trade association, founded in 1955, which represents the growers, processors, suppliers, and marketers of cultivated and specialty mushrooms in the United States.

At the second annual meeting, Robert Reilly, Deputy Chief of Staff for US Congressman Todd Platts - 19th District, announced formal recognition of the NutriCore NorthEast at two levels within the FY 2005 Federal Budget that was signed by President Bush on December 8. Through the efforts of Senator Arlen Specter, Senator Rick Santorum and Congressman Todd Platts, an appropriation of $50,000 to NutriCore NorthEast is in the Agricultural Research Services budget. Also, within the "soft earmarks" of the USDA's Rural Development budget, NutriCore was recommended for consideration along with 100 other programs around the country vying for a part of a $650,000 appropriation.
