| Chesapeake Science & Security Corridor (CSSC)
The CSSC is a consortium including eight municipal jurisdictions, in three states,
collaborating to plan and prepare for impacts resulting from the base realignment and closure (BRAC) decision of 2005. Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) is one of several bases in Maryland gaining a significant number of jobs as a result of the 2005 BRAC decision. Harford County, Cecil County, Baltimore County, Baltimore City, New Castle County, Chester County, Lancaster County, and York County fall within 40 miles surrounding APG, therefore these will be the most likely areas impacted.
The realignment will bring over 28,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs to the region: Jobs available for educational institutions to place graduates, Jobs that will bring families to the area creating a new educated labor pool for
current employers, Jobs that will create demand for services provided by our business network, Jobs that will seek our existing industry for
contract work, Jobs that will provide a better than average family sustaining wage.
The York County Planning Commission and the YCEDC are working together to represent York County in the CSSC. As part of the process an action plan is being developed and will result in a county economic development plan that will become a part of the county
comprehensive plan. Action items will range from land use to education, public service to
business and industry. Public and private stakeholders will be asked to participate in
crafting a shared vision for how York County should grow in the next decade.
The CSSC brings an opportunity for
self-study and inter-municipal cooperation.
We seek your interest and input in this
